Viridiana

Viridiana is a 1961 Spanish-Mexican coproduction, directed by Luis Buñuel and produced in Spain by Mexican Gustavo Alatriste. It is loosely based in Halma, a novel by Benito Pérez Galdós. Viridiana was the winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival, but it was banned in Spain for sixteen years, due to the condemnation (as "blasphemous") issued by the Vatican. The film focuses on a young novitiate about to take her vows who is told by her Mother Superior that she should visit her uncle, Don Jaime , her only living relative. After some time on his large country estate, he tries to seduce her, believing that she resembles his deceased wife.

Hey, tomorrow this classic film, i strongly recomend...
8:30, please be on time is 127 min movie, EN subtitles

plot:
"This Wim Wenders film centers around the story of two angels wandering in a mixture of post-war and modern Berlin. Invisible to humans, they nevertheless give their help and comfort to all the lonely and depressed souls they meet. Finally, after many centuries, one of the angels becomes unhappy with his immortal state and wishes to become human in order to experience the joys of everyday life. He meets a circus acrobat and finds in her the fufillment of all his mortal desires. He also discovers that he is not alone in making this cross over, and that a purely spiritual experience is not enough to satisfy anyone."

I'll kill ya

Samy told me that Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels wasn't a violent film, with funny lines and good music. I agree about the BSO, for the quotes and the violence just read below.

Rory Breaker: If you hold back anything, I'll kill ya. If you bend the truth or I think your bending the truth, I'll kill ya. If you forget anything I'll kill ya. In fact, you're gonna have to work very hard to stay alive, Nick. Now do you understand everything I've said? Because if you don't, I'll kill ya.

Anyway, i should admit that the actors are quite credible if they really are (Samy, what about the female character?)

Slow poetry

-Follow me
- and if I not?

On Thursday30th November, Andrej made and extra effort on the kitchen to prepare Asian dishes. He showed us a beutiful short film about Swiss and after a hard decision process we felt on the universe of Dolls, a poem of images. Yes, it's slow. And there isn't a lot of dialogue. But probably it's our life that's going too fast… I am sure I missed a multitude of references and symbols, particularly colors, to elements of Japanese culture past and present... However, this is no problem for Takeshi Kitano who has stated that he will be happy if viewers are simply amazed at the beautiful pictures.

Two political leaders ( independent league of the north Ticino and Troskistas asociados, respectively) taking fun with my childhood album. Some pictures are missing since then.

Rahul meets Sue

The 9/11 we saw Bollywood Hollywood. I would like to give you my opinion about the tape but since I get nervous when a girl stare at me I asked to an expert, Rahult Fofodranken, german film critic:

"the movie in my opinion was good! why? well because its entertaining and Lisa Ray looks stunning ( sexyyy!)....the movie depicts some cliches associated with Indian culture which have been already over exploited by other movies but what the heck..it still is fun..u don't need a high I.Q to grab this one, what u need to grab is a beer, some chips, a couple of ur buddies and u are on.. "

AMEN.

Madrid sightseeing: M-30 and more...

Miguel: [back home after being given in adoption to a pedophiliac dentist] At first it was fun, but I am too young to be tied down.

Carmen prepare extra-good tortillas de patatas. I still have erotic dreams about them. The funny point this day was that my sister from Brussels came, it was a a surprise! Also Soraya (Marcelino's sister) was there and helped us with the tortilla preparation.
¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!! (1984) (Pedro Almodovar) ... aka What Have I Done to Deserve. This's about the struggle of survival in a harsh urban environment.
The famous Yves Saint Laurent, expert in survival in harsh urban environments

Almodovar stretched this reality into a surrealistic comedy. As example, the scene when Carmen Maura gives her son to the dentist in lieu of payment for dental work). If you love Almodovar, this film is certainly full of his cryptic views of life.Personally I liked the acting of all of the artists and the approach to "legal" drugs (in the 80's the consumption of pills was very expanded)

- Good food, nice girls, who care about the film?

Wednesday, December 6, 2006

First drink is best.

Ride the High Country , a Sam Peckinpah film, brought some fresh air to our Thursdays. Roland had the good idea to bring a western that actually focuses more on character than on gunfights. Some quotes are very smart you can always figure out more than what you hear in the lines.

Gil Westrum: Don't worry about? about anything. I'll take care of it, just like you would have.

Steve Judd: Hell, I know that. I always did... You just forgot it for a while, that's all.

Roland cooked indian food, very good. Raulito admiteed that it was better than his mum dishes.

looove, looove, looove, lalalalala......

http://german.imdb.com/title/tt0362004/trailers-screenplay-E23432-10-2
The next Thursday Yves arrived with Palindromes, a Todd Solondz's film. Anyone who has seen Happiness (1998) knows what to expect from this director: abortion, paedophilia, individualism, family and parenthood... Somebody said that with Solondz’s films "people had to laugh because if they didn't they would have to cry". We all laughed.

Roma, I prefer the city...

Officially, we start the 26th September, I cooked.....yes, pasta. I proposed Roma, a Spanish-Argentinian film because it wan several prizes and Aristarain made good ones (as un "Lugar en el mundo" or "Hache"), but for be honest I didn't appreciate it too much this one. I think the films wants to talk about too many things (family, love, political transition...) and finally it doesn't say a lot about anything, well at least Botto (the main actor) enjoyed his job, so we were happy for him.

meet me in montauk

Clementine: You were scared?

Joel: Yeah. I thought you knew that about me. I ran back to the bonfire, trying to outrun my humiliation.

Clementine: Was it something I said?

Joel: Yeah, you said "so go." With such disdain, you know?

Clementine: Oh, I'm sorry.

Joel: It's okay. [Walking Out]

Clementine: Joely? What if you stayed this time?

Joel: I walked out the door. There's no memory left.

Clementine: Come back and make up a good-bye at least. Let's pretend we had one. [Joel comes back]

Clementine: Bye Joel.

Joel: I love you...

Clementine: Meet me... in Montauk

Unofficially we start the 19/09/06. I don't remember about the food, pasta I guess. The film. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so great!!! Raulito and Marcelino enjoyed, me too, again...

Foto and Blabla, more than friends, nightmares.

I also recommend you the last of Gondry, the Science of Dreams. Meet in Montauk.
